2022 Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid: Unmasked and ADV Ready
Following months of anticipation, Yamaha’s Ténéré 700 became available in June 2020.
The much-anticipated mid-weight ADV became a top seller, providing direct completion to some of the most notable European mid-weights, including the F 850 GS and the KTM 790 Adventure R.
And for 2022, Yamaha has released a more Adventure-focused Ténéré 700. Meet the World Raid edition, which adds to the already excellent features of the base model to make this steed ready to tackle more miles and rougher terrain.
So, what updates does the World Raid have?
2022 Ténéré 700 World Raid vs. Base Model
The updates begin with being able to go the distance.
The World Raid model is updated with a split-style fuel tank—typical of many Paris-Dakar setups and KTM Adventure bikes—that has a 6.1-gallon capacity. This dual side tanks feature separate gas caps, which keeps fuel from splashing and weight lower, helping to keep the center of gravity low.
The base model arrives with a 4.2-gallon tank that Yamaha says is good for 215 miles, so expect the World Raid to achieve over 300 miles between fill-ups.
The larger tank of course adds some weight, bringing the overall wet weight of the World Raid to 485 pounds wet--up 33 pounds from the base model.
The suspension is next, both the front and rear getting an extra 0.8 of an inch increase in travel. The new 43mm KYB forks now offer 9.1 inches of travel and the piggyback rear shock 8.7 inches of travel. This will surely assist in those challenging off-terrain sections.
Ergonomics are also tweaked for off-ride riding. For example, the seat is flatter, allowing riders to move around more when riding in tougher terrain.
Other highlights of the Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid include:
- 5-inch vertical-mounted TFT display offers three themed screens: Raid, Street, or Explore. It also integrates with Yamaha's cool MyRide app.
- Öhlins steering damper
- Taller windscreen (0.6 inches taller)
- 3-piece aluminum skid plate/engine guard
- Larger footpads
The 689cc-DOHC liquid-cooled CP2 twin-cylinder engine with the popular 270-degree crank remains the same, which isn't a bad thing. The power plant creates 72 horsepower at 9000 rpm and 50.2 ft/lbs. of torque at 6500 rpm.
And braking remains the same, the World Raid arriving with Brembo calipers squeezing dual 282mm wave discs up front, and a single 245mm disc out back. ABS is standard.
The bike will be available throughout Europe in May, offered in two colors: Icon Blue or Midnight Black. There's still no word if the World Raid will hit US shores, but this will likely become a reality due to the anticipation building for the model already.
